DM-JungleTemple

Postby EvilGrins » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:44 am

I don't remember exactly where I had the conversation but it was definitely in this forum. Someone was asking about temples/pyramids, Aztec or Mayan in design. I said I had a map like that somewhere or other, and they wanted to know what it was.

Map title up above, screenshots here:

It's a pretty simple setup, the outside looks great. The inside of the center temple is kinda bland, and there's a fountain in there that's just very generic and the water effect isn't that great to look at.

Here you go, whoever you were. Sorry I don't have a .zip or a .rar for you.

I recently found that but chose not to DL when I saw that was lacking jungle.
Maybe it's still growing. Have you tried watering it ?

The author was more interested in the style of pyramid you get in a jungle, rather than the jungle.
They could have disguised the edge of the map better !
Nice looking temple, and looks like it may actually be fun for deathmatch

To be fair, most pyramids of that type are in massive forests in South & Central America... but not my fault. I didn't make this map.

If the pyramid itself and the map play well, it may be worth a re-make.

Honestly, saying this would look "GREAT" it an insult against every designer with more skills. I mean, what are you going to do, if you find a really nice outdoor map? Are you dying because of awesomeness or something like that?
Well, just out of curiosity I tried it myself, since the dl size was small anway. Nothing special!

What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills

The outside of the pyramids look great, not the entire outside of the map. The jungle isn't a jungle, the trees are substandard, and it's all fairly basic...

...but the outside construction and build of the pyramids themselves looks great.

Context!

Not surprising as I got the map originally from Nali City years ago. I still don't have the .zip file for it on my system.

You just made me to your arch-enemy. I will maybe kill you... with the awesomeness of a future map I have started to develop (I hope it works)! Either you won`t survive or you will finally update your sense of "great looking" stuff. You really can mame somebody sad with your low requirements. This is even worse then the opposite somehow. :ironic2:

There was a stretch between 2002 and 2005 when most maps that came out were all sorts of crappy. After awhile my standards switched to "so long as it's fun".

Also because the maps that were of high quality tended to be such a memory leech that they were impossible to play... though to be fair my old computer could barely handle those at the time. My current system could probably handle them pretty much okay.

One note here, these types of temples were not necessarily surrounded (closely anyway) by jungle when they were newly built.
(even though the name says "Jungle" Temple LOL )
Many renditions of these temples back when they were built and used by the Mayans showed them on or in cleared areas.
So those pictures look fairly authentic at least in that way.
Just a note in the author's behalf.
