naw, do your idea - in the end i guarantee it won't be anything like what i'm going to do with it. Actually, i only need about a 1 quarter section, vertically enhanced for a particluar area of something much bigger...

I'll repeat now, after looking closely at a lot of the old unreal and ut99 product, Shane Caudle made loads of mapping *mistakes* imo, a lot of sloppy brushing (gives me bsp errors already :ironic2:) innox i think is a bit better, but still some sloppy stuff...

Try looking at Cliff Bleszinki's work then. His brushwork seems clean. Have to dissappoint you though. Apart from using a structual idea of one place in Turbine I won't be using any sources.

hey, anything from you is gonna be good

i have to take back what i said about shane, i think those guys just had to work really fast so weren't to carefull about being tidy - if it worked then it passed... he was likely intersecting stuff like crazy to get maps built quickly - or used some other tool (3dmax maybe?) to make some of his shapes and then imported them into ued (whatever ued they were using during unreal and early ut99...) looking at some of his complex brushes i can't exactly figure out how he formed those shapes - pretty sure not with 2dse - they seem weirdly tesselated .. :noidea

People say that of my work so there must be something to it.
I just finalized the layout. It'll be nice and small, with plenty of Z-Axis and even some tight indoor fights. No RCR, though, and it might take a round or two to memorize the layout. Tomorrow I'll start doing the architectural stuff, possibly fixing up one of the buildings to determine its final style (will have to look at Ulukai's work to know how certain things work). And I ran into another problem... the MAP NAME...

€ By the way, did someome inform beyondunreal about this? Might attract a few more mappers for this then... :)

It's good to see more veteran mappers joining. Revelation, Rakiayn, and Swanky, I appreciate the hell out of your work. 8)

spent a little time tonight fussing and fooling around with this - erm, too much time, really :D

the original looks like this :barf:
Shot0001.jpg
this is a bit better, but still kinda industrialish ...
CTF-XC-UnrealGateway-Shot0004.jpg
this is better still, but looking a tad familiar - maybe too familiar :noidea
CTF-XC-UnrealGateway-Shot0008.jpg

not too sure atm if this one is worth the effort it would take to finish it ...
I have the original map x 2 (one is flipped) joined to forma a middle, added extra route connections bringing the sides together and connecting the middle.
streamlining things a bit (deleting movers, replacing cleaning up some sloppy bsp, re-doing a bit of textures and lighting) ... looks like it will be a lot of work - also have to figure out how to make a spaceship fit with the christmas theme, :loool:

Since some of you already posted screenshots and spoilers, then I'll write one too.
I'll try to combine a Nali village, Xmas and DM-Pyramid :loool: , the problem: I need to build it from scratch (too many modifications, but it will still be recognisable (I hope)). :lol2:

@Gen: Really nice face model :tu:
You will see though that by doing it the way you're doing it, you will have nearly zero BSP issues with the models you do there.
At least that was my experience the last time I did it the same way (even the most simple BSP would have issues except the terrain/island I make there).

I tried a rough model of what I was planning, but I ended up trashing it since it wasn't becoming the way I imagined it first. However, what I am planning to do is a big, open and non-claustrophobic, Xmas themed Morbias + Fractal + something new (well, it's something entirely new but which may resemble these maps, so that's my "excuse" for "Epic based" lol :lol2: ).

Ok ....now I tell you my Idea .... DM-Stalwart and parts of DM-Morpheus combined in a CTF map.

Two companies fighting for customers in the pre-Christmas period.
