Monster Hunt: I'm in love!

Postby EvilGrins » Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:07 am

I've got a new favorite map, found on KillerBee's Nali Weapons 2 server.

MH-Antalius is a beautiful map with some of the most amazing texturing I've ever seen in ut99. I think it's using a new texture package for plants that came out awhile back. It's thickly forested, tight battle spaces, and has monsters on it I've never seen before...and some I have but never on anyone else's Monster Hunt games.

It has snakes! Actual cobras that slither across the ground, rear up, and strike at you.

It's using the maiden form of the spinner, which was very cool. Also has predators, the two legged pack lizards and not the 7 foot tall movie version, and insekt warriors.

I was on his server a little under an hour ago and no one else was there. If you pop on there's a fair chance the map will still be up; I didn't have time to finish it.

In case you don't remember it, link is here:

I was just checking the threads from a moderators point of view when a wild "thats my map he is talking about" appears.

@map: actually I can do better (today), map has some serious flaws, but thanks. Maybe its still worth an attempt to make an other MH map in the future. ^^

I actually used nearly all the animal pawns I knew (everything credited), although it was way too much for most of the players, not only in pawn variation but also in terms of total filesize, like usual in most of the cases because of the textures...

Actually, Monsterhunt is the perfect mix from Assault and single player. Monsters and level layout give the single player feeling (normally single player mapping takes a lot of time, is actually mostly dead nowadays anyway and has nearly no re-play value) while the rest comes mostly from Assault (which definitely has some kind of re-play vlaue).

I just loved it for 2 reasons:

1) Plant textures, it's visually stunning.

2) More kinds of monsters to kill. Snakes, scorpions, etc. When i found an animal pack a ways back that had bunnies & rats in it I was impressed, even if they were no threat at all. Finding actually threatening animals just about made my day.

Somebody needs to make more. Like lions, tigers, and bears... oh my!

Thats not something which could be easily done.

I would be happy to finally have a real scripted-human-pack with the Unreal 1 as well the UT chars as scripted pawns (maybe even the extra stuff from the official bonus packs).
