Now something totally surreal ...

The little spot in the upper left is the Boss player model as scale reference.
This will be a experimental map with a strange feeling and many ambient sound spots...

After a recent request to make (who am I kidding? I edited) a map for a redeemer arena deathmatch. I edited 3 instead of just the 1 and they were all well received. So this time I thought I'd do another and I was sent a map to edit this time around, which I'll get to eventually, but I had a better map in mind.

What is good for a map to play a redeemer match on? You need a LOT OF ROOM to move. Contrary to what you may think, there's not a lot of really HUGE deathmatch maps to edit. However, there's a bucketload of HUGE capture the flag maps...

...and why not my favorite one, in CTF4?

Image
Yeah, I'm still editing it.

CTFM-HallOfGiantsII, now DM-HallOfGiantsIV, is easily the largest of the HallOfGiants maps. It's got player areas on the ground, near the very high ceiling for each team's base, and a center platform which I've currently occupied. I figure why not go the extra bit then just make a map when I can slap some tough monsters on it as well, that can each survive multiple redeemer hits.

Image
I went with Warlords because they do well in a low gravity environment and fighting a flying combatant with so much room for them to maneuver is a better fight in my book. I took one of the skins I grabbed from ut2004 to put on them...

...although that's only good while they're still flapping.
Image
For some odd reason they turn back to normal after they die.

Still trying to figure out why.

Other than that though, even with just the 4 of them, I've made them a fair fight for even a redeemer match as they're not using standard Warlord ammo.

Still a work in progress.

@Grins
Make sure you remember to also skin the carcass :tu:

My personal choice for re-purposed re-builds (DM->CTF..etc.) is not to increment the original number, unless I have made layout or geometry changes, but to add a second version.
eg. DM-HallOfGiantsII-[RedeemerII] or DM-HallOfGiantsII-DeemerEd-v2 or DM-HallOfGiantsII-MH-RD-Ed2 etc.
Always keep the same start version, so that players know that they know the layout, and if some one else does a re-make of an earlier version of the map it gives them the ability to number it accurately , without getting confused with yours.

Some of my re-builds are just to kill annoying BSP errors, and get labelled simply.
eg. DM-GenericMap-(Fix3)

I try and keep it a short as possible, but with enough info that a player can make a good guess as to the intended use of the map, without reading the docs, and not putting extra un-needed rubbish in the filename.

@Gen,
I don't quite see where your point is going, as it is obviously a rebuild, of a remake, of the original, and as long as the credits are complete *@Grins?* :confused2: and the previous authors are OK with it *@Grins?* :confused2: you better have! After some of the threads here, you better be "on-it" :wtf:
At least there is "more meat for the grinder"...even though it ...uumm....yes looks the same :lol2:
I am sure Grins will start doing more to the maps and making his own, when he has learned more and has the time and desire (and we all need more of that...and coffee).

Whereabouts would I do that? There's an options under 'Pawn' for the carcass but it won't change no matter what I do.

You're not wrong in that, which is part of why I'm planning to hunt down the mapper of this version to see if he minds.

Although, to be fair, the first DM of this map, the original HallOfGiants, was an edit of the CTF. If you check it in UnrealEd you can still see the flag setups.

beast your screenshots are too dark - before posting, load them into a photo program and raise the gamma so the details can be seen clearly, pls

Beast, I like it.

Small suggestion: Try more than just one type of tree.
