Gateways.unr from the original unreal... but as a "proper" CTF, of course :)

I'm going to work on my "urban" dm idea tonight and tomorrow and see where that goes...

@gen - that's pretty serious work !!!

A map without any cave or terrain part in it is NOT my style. Your keeping the full layout of your map as in the original one FnB?

@FraGnBraG: You are so damn fast!
@Swanky: Welcome to the forums, Swanky, and glad to hear you've already made some progress!
@Rev: Come on, it's just a month of less Diablo-playing
@Everyone: I placed a few brushes (I've already built more and textures will be replaced, though)...

heh, you think so? the last screenie of my post (showing the general layout) ... that took about 5 or 6 hours:

The mapping session went something like this:

1. looked at somebody else's CTF conversion of gateways.unr (it was quite noob shitty)
2. studied the actual map from my install of unreal...
looked a bit risky, but i decided to see if the thing was actually stable and clean-building
(some maps are not, lol) i wanted to find out right away so i saved a copy and loaded UED2.
3. dupped and rotated the original map to form two bases, joined them.
4. deleted useless mover doors and some other useless stuff... except those big portals - left them alone
5. restructured the middle a bit and added connecting hallways to sides (temporary)
6. added two lifts and remade the middle mover doors
7. fast texture replaced (imported dna utx, pandemium utx and fnb textures)
8. fast general alignment (walls, floors and ceilings only)
9. added flags, starts, guns, pickups and botpaths
10. full built, ran it, checked some poly views and movement - tested all movers
11. remade all mover doors - speed them up a lot
12. ran a few test matches in map, observed (game play needs work)
13. finished the two little hallways shown with certain details and lighting
14. stopped

So, now i know what it is, how it plays atm, and have an idea where it needs to go to make it decent CTF.
It will have to change in terms of layout, i'll probably rip out the sides and put something better there ...
We'll see :)

Was just thinking... Let's say I build a completely custom map, with no reference to retail stuff at all, except for a secret door that randomly opens in one out of a billion games. Behind that door, you have the entire unmodified DM-Morbias with Christmas presents instead of Rocket Launchers, and a Christmas tree instead of the Redeemer. Now, will I get my points for "Epic Games design elements" and "XMas theme"?

Granted you made the secret room more accessible than that, I would accept

heh heh... well, let's just suppose Rev decides he'd actually like to "kick our mapper asses around a bit", I could still see him maxing points even without the debatable "one point lost" for forgoing the "epic clause"... unless Swanky kicks his butt back! Bets, anyone?

Of course, if some of those UnrealSP guys show up, all bets are off, lol :)

i think if you took one or two of those 200 brush epic maps and shrunk it down to "present size" (i can see how you could do it) that's sneaky :satan: but technically should still count, imo :) i wouldn't bother making it a secret, tho, maybe just tuck it off out of the way a bit like part of the deco...

Why not making a CTF map where Morbias is in the middle and if one player of each team is inside, it emerges for an arena fight, the winner gets a present.

Hey Rak, long time no see. As with Frag, haven't seen you since the FoT packages. You guys okay?
