512 sounds good. What about additional files ?. That should be discussed too.
everything should be in one single map file (myLevel)? Or maybe without custom textures ? I personally vote for allow custom things as long as they are myleveled :-)

We should go for maybe 2 months - wrap it sometime in november - that should mean lots of maps :D

my suggested rules:

1. contest map entry should be 512 KB - with or without brushes (mapper's choice)

2. use only the standard ut99 packages and standard BPs, and that includes UTX, UMX, UAX, U, etc.

3. all custom textures, custom meshies, or other custom actors etc MUST be in MyLevel
EXCEPT (see list of exceptions)

4. A level screenshot is mandatory !!!! no blank screenshots !!!! (these can be as small as 4k so that's not asking too much, lol)

5. Each contest map a mapper submits should be a link to a ZIP, in which there is ONE contest map UNR (512K or less), all custom packages (size will be added to the UNR size)
ONE screenie of the map, and ONE quick little readme text file) The zip can then be attached to a POST in the contest thread, etc. The main reason for the ZIP is at the end of the contest there is usually a mappack and all those ZIPped things are needed to make a proper mappack.

6. At the end of the contest the MAPPERS (and possibly PUBLIC?) should vote for top five maps in a poll (or top two of each type etc - we should discuss this :)
Concurrently all the contest entries can live on a server - the server could be built up throughout the contest to server as a test bed for maps


List of Exceptions (IMO):

A. swJumpad.u actor
- for easy wootPads and since EVERYONE has this actor it seems rather pointless to MyLevel it - in fact, i don't think you can MyLevel it - dunno, Jack?

B. xPickups maybe ?

C. ...

I know that there are different versions of swjumppad.u out there and you CAN mylevel it (I can't remember the command for it).

how about UTtech4? it's not a standard package (despite the name implying so) and widely used.

There is no reason to limit the filesize if there is going to be a list of exceptions? if the limit is 512k then all custom content should be myleveled. That's what I loved about the 300k concept... If we are going to exclude custom packages we derail the client thinking that he only needs to download said 512k to play the map. Also, excluding certain custom mods will also remove the mappers freedom as if he doesn't use say xPickup those mappers who do will way benefit by adding it to their maps, while the mapper who tries to be original will suffer. I predict all the maps will turn the theme towards the excluded custom mods list.

The reason I brought up the 300k concept was because of the challenge - equal to all mappers with no set direction. If you are going to allow custom mods I'm not sure I'll participate - If it can be allowed only if MyLeved within the 512k limit (or whatever limit it ends up with?) I'll be onboard as it will then be equal to all themes.

And please don't take this thread offtopic, religious or into politics - it's a game - lighten up and relax! :tu: 666 is just a number, 666 is just two less than 668 and 5 more than 661.

ha ha , ya i know the syntax.... it's just i remember for some reason the thing didn't work properly when in mylevel ... :/ maybe i already do this in my maps - i should go look, lol!

okay assume the thing imports okay, then i totally agree with theDane and we have no exceptions!!!

so, do y'all think paperCoffee should be forced to make a smallish contest graphic that we have to include some where in our map(s) with 512K of room a small image shouldn't hurt?
