Site reputation

Post by Dr.Flay »

*EDIT*
http://www.mywot.com/guidelines/site-owners
http://hosts-file.net/?s=Help#submission

http://www.verifymysite.net (uses Google and AVG reputation)

I noticed "Web Of Trust" is flagging some of Mr.P's (Pietro) sites as bad, so figured we have to do something about that.
 Image
The hosts he is using are a bit of a problem for reputation.
It is not actually the host, but the way the domain names are made.
Users on the same root domain have hosted malicious files, and it affects people with legitimate sites with a sub-domain.

Unlike the other stupid sites like the Norton reputation service, WOT can see claimed sites as a different URL, so will save comments and ratings for that sub-domian.

Mr.P has signed-up with WOT, claimed his URLs and added his WOT codes to the sites, and now it time for us to do our bit.
Please install the WOT browser plugin, and then rate and leave comments for other users who may think the site is a threat.

http://www.mywot.com/scorecard/ut99maps.juplo.com (Phishing, Malware or viruses)
http://www.mywot.com/scorecard/ut99maps2.juplo.com (Phishing, Malware or viruses)

*EDIT*
Another Unreal engine site that needs attention. I see it has dropped to "yellow-alert" in WOT since I rated it.
The original reference to "hphosts" malware list is now gone.
I better contact çyßêrhåwk and get him to claim the URL at WOT.

Thank-you for your help.

I would like to thank Dr.Flay for having checked out my websites with WOT.
As I wrote in private to him, I knew this problem when I registered these domains but I was never really interested in it. These websites were built for the community so web reputation beyond these borders is not so important, UT99 users can anyway contact me by email and comment/ask for everything published on these websites.
At the moment, I can't register new domains so I've decided to register my websites to WOT.

There is also another service called Verify My Site (http://www.verifymysite.net), give it a try.
I added a "verify banner" to ut99files.t15.org.

it's me :lol2:
I don't like use different nicks, one is just enough but this is it: for some reasons I don't remember now, maybe I did a mistake or something alike when I registered to this forum, I was not able to use my official nick (Mr.P) I used when I played with CoN Sniper Team 3 years ago...and Pietro is my real first name (it can be traslated as "Peter" in english language). As my close friends often use "Pe" in place of "Pietro", I decided to use UTPe as nick (UT+Pe).

Hey Mr.P, sorry to hear your site rep went haywire. I'll get WOT Rating for ya and rate your sites good. I used to have them long time ago.

Okie dokie! I hope the whole WOT thing isn't more complicated since I haven't used it in the past few years! lol!

Edit:-
I logged in the site, remembered my info. Got the good rating done. :tu:

They updated the system last week, so you can be more specific with rating sites, and it should stop people using it in a spammy way.

I should point out that the WOT ratings WILL automatically block anyone from accessing a site with a red circle.
As more browser become more secure, users will find them-selves locked-out of the "juplo" domains.
Check what your browser uses. Opera is currently using "Yandex"

:( People who are members of several reputation sites, often post the same results to others, or find someone else's bad report and just quote it.

Do not think this is a small problem, because users who do not know your site, WILL avoid using your site.
You will never know how many users never visited, because they never arrived.

With the increase in focusing on security and internet abuse, you will start to see more browsers tighten-up by using web-reputation lookup by default. Opera has done it for years. It was the first to do so :)
Deal with it now, so it is not a problem later.
The longer you leave a rating without trying to fix it, the harder it is to undo the damage.

eg. if I had pasted my comments last week, the user who left the bad rating a few days ago, may have not rated the site as bad/suspicious.
I have contacted the user and explained the situation. I asked them to review their rating as soon as possible.

In simple terms, all we need are more good ratings than bad.
Leaving an optional comment is most useful, as it can show that you know why you gave your rating.

Note: I have opted for WOT, because the statistical back-bone of the internet "Alexa" uses it. All the SEO tools refer to it. Plugins are available for all major browsers.
It is the main public service checked by all the other reputation sites, plugins and services. (so is Norton site reputation, but it is crap).
"hphosts" is the most important list NOT to be in, as ALL services use it for reference.

I just tried to access Verify my Site, but it is down or being attacked. Out of curiosity (as i have not seen it before) I thought I would check it with WOT
No rating yet. It must be a new site.

You will see if you search for "WOT" plugins, you will see it is included in almost all 3rd party plugins

8) Well my friend for you, things will now get better anyway (just like Unreal Central).

To show you how bad it may have been try this.
Go to Google and search for "unreal-mayhem" and then try to access it.
Opera users will still be blocked even if they use a direct link or bookmark and see this.
http://yandex.com/infected?l10n=en&url= ... mayhem.com

This blocking of sites happens without any browser plugins.
If you use Comodo or Trend AV amongst others, they should also block access to http://unreal-mayhem.com/files/
Anyone who uses any cloud based protection should also be blocked.

BTW. Who owns "Unreal-Mayhem" ? There has been something injected into the site, or one of the downloads is infected.

That would be -=]UM[=-Hitman who own unreal mayhem. He been trying to work on that site for past few weeks and still can't get it off (they were talking about it on Facebook). I told him to get a new site layout because hackers are behind him trying to go after his forum.

However, they are on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/138263556203436/

Thanks dude, I was pretty-sure it was hacked.
Seems they have a new URL http://unreal-mayhem.dyndns.org
I hope they have better luck with that (at least it is "portable")

Yeah. But from the look of it, there are site hackers coming up behind it sometimes I guess. They are injecting the exploit in javascript. Just silly... :noidea

Np, hope they get it fixed well.
